EVIDENCE OF THE CONSTRUCTION TECHIQUES USED TO MAKE THE CUTTINGS

Researched and written by Rob Borsje & Lyn Myles

If you look carefully, you will see, in the cuttings all along the line, evidence of how the cuttings were made. The surrounding rock could be blasted by dynamite, which was inserted into the rock down drilled holes, or some rocks may have been split along natural cracks by drilling into the cracks and using wedges to split them. Many boulders bear the signs of how they were removed from the natural rock. Not all drill marks are straight up and down, some were oblique, refer to the last photo below. The marks of the blast marks and drill holes can be found in many places - see how many you can find!
You can also see the same marks in the diverted Nyaania Creek bed.

A blast mark in the rock face along the walk.

Another blast mark in the rock face.

More of the same but this one is in the diverted Nyaania Creek bed.

A very clear impression of a drill mark left in a boulder.

Another drill mark in a boulder. . .
